If you are based in a more Westerly region, the Rockies of Colorado provide a breathtaking backdrop for a relaxing vacation. If you are able to travel, and prepared to spend the extra money, you can try out several different locations and see which suits you best.

Most mountain cabin rentals are great for families but be sure to check in advance that the cabin you rent will allow children. Because many people take a mountain cabin vacation for peace and quiet surroundings, there are many cabin owners who will not accept children. Many of the companies who rent out mountain cabins are only acting as brokers, so it will be the owner of the individual cabin who will decide whether children can stay. Many will say no due to the increased risk of damage and the possibility of noise disturbance, but you should find some that will accept families.

Although many people prize mountain cabins because they are islands of peace and tranquility, you don't have to go on retreat when you stay in one. There are lots of activities available in the mountains, including some strenuous and fairly athletic ones. Mountains tend to be near water, and often that water will be fast moving and conducive to water sports. Whitewater rafting and canoeing are usually available in nearby waters, and can usually be booked and paid for in advance by the company running the cabins.

If the water is not for you, you can try horseback riding or hiking, or some of the purely local activities which booking company will tell you about. It is certain that you will never be short of interesting and fun ways to spend your time. Although cabins are rustic and rural, they come with all modern conveniences and comfort is at a premium. You will have luxury bedding and comfortable furniture, and even a relaxing massage will be available through your booking hosts. Take the break you deserve in relaxing, natural surroundings, and then return to your daily life with renewed enthusiasm and vigor.
